visions and dreams
God uses visions and dreams as a way to communicate with us today. The book of Acts chronicles how the Holy Spirit would consistently speak to and direct the early church through visions and dreams. On the day of Pentecost, the Apostle Peter stood up and addressed the crowds in Jerusalem boldly proclaiming the prophet Joel explaining the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
“But Peter, standing up with the eleven, raised his voice and said to them, “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and heed my words. For these are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day. But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:
“And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams.” Acts 2:14-17
This is not in just a figurative sense as some suggest but very much in the literal sense. The pattern of God speaking through dreams and visions to warn and direct mankind is seen throughout biblical narrative from Genesis to Revelation. (See Job 33:14-18)
